Amish
Community Quilt Auction

The annual Jamesport
Amish Community Quilt Auction is held each
year on the 2nd Saturday of October.
Quilters from many states and Canada cosign
their quilts, wall hangings and quilt tops
at the auction.
The Jamesport area has many talented
local quilters, Amish and English, who also
sell their quilts. The Jamesport Community
Association sponsors the auction and charges
a commission for each item sold. The money
is used for advertising to promote our
community throughout the year.
The auction is held in the A.V. Spillman
Theater building, located one block south of
downtown. The building is open a few hours
before the auction so buyers may view the
quilts.
There is seating for over 100 and fills
up quickly with standing room only. Many of
the quilts are hung up for display and then
taken up on stage where they are displayed
on a bed and sold.
There is a variety of applique and pieced
quilts, Country Bride, Country Love and
Peacock are some of the appliqued patterns.
Lone Star, Log Cabin, and Mariner's Compass
are some of the pieces.
The quilts are done in a wide array of
colors. Rich burgundies, blues and greens
are popular. There are usually several
traditional dark colored Amish quilts done
in solid black blues, purples, greens and
browns. Some of those quilt patterns are
Amish Shadow, Log Cabin and Amish Dahlia.
One of our local Amish quilters has sold
2 king size mini Log Cabin quilts with over
4200 pieces done in a variety of colors.
Over 100 hand quilted quilts are sold each
year, along with a variety of quilt tops and
wall hangings. Antique quilts are also sold.
Local auctioneers volunteer their services
for the day. Many other volunteers from the
community help make the auction a success.
Over $40,000 worth of quilts were sold this
past year. For more information, call
